Rachelle and Jordan
Rachelle was living at home with her alcoholic
parents. She learned to care for them since the age of nine, after her grandmother passed away. Dating and love were never anything that she thought was going to cross her path. She was forced to leave high school in 9th grade and woke up everyday wishing to die. Working as a waitress by day and a care giver by night.
One day, as she was opening at the restaurant she worked at, she found a card and rose by the door. It was written to Rachelle, the pretty blonde waitress. Turns out that the writer of the card was a man named Jordan, who drank his coffee there everyday for the last three years. That morning they talked and began dating. Turns out he was a counselor at AA.
Today they are married and Rachelle runs courses for family members of alcoholics at the center with him. Her father unfortunately passed, but her mother is free of liquor. Rachelle says, "Jordan was sent to me, there are no coincidences. Dating him was the best thing I did."
Joseph and Linda
I met her in my philosophy class first year of college. I wasn't even interested in dating anyone. My parents were stuck on these Italian girls and only wanted me dating "my kind". I had nothing against Italian girls, but Linda was something different. Her dark skin and fresh Spanish accent drew me to her.
When we first started dating, it was in secret, but one day my parents found out and kicked me out of the house. I had no where to go and was a young, in love, 18 year old who was dating the woman of my dreams. Linda left her house and got a job to help me afford an apartment. The first year alone was so hard; they cut off our electricity at one point because we couldn't pay. Her parents didn't have money to help us either, but her mom was cute and did shopping for us sometimes.
My parents and I fought constantly about the two of us dating. One day parent's neighbor's daughter was shot and killed. It took someone's death for them to realize that they could loose me at any moment. But today Linda and I are married and we have our first baby on the way. My parents are a big part of my life and get along great with her. I'm so happy I fought for her, she is great and I love her more than anything."
Hana and Marquise
I thought I was lesbian for a long time. But I didn't know if it was true or how to come out about it. I wanted a simple life without prejudice and hardship and that made it harder to come out.
I met Marquise at a party and we spent the whole night talking about lesbian dating and how she came out. I remember she kissed me at the end of the night and I felt so strong because of her. We started dating and with in the next year everyone including my family knew about me. Marquise was my strength. She helped me love myself, our dating experience is inspiring."
Dave and Jennifer
Dave loved
women. His motto was "date a woman so that you could meet more women". He was your typical male chauvinistic pig looking for one thing when it came to dating. He was the type of smooth talker that could get any woman he wanted and woke up with a different one everyday. He had a great job and was not in to serious dating.
One day a new girl in his office was asked to
work with him on a project. He was already making plans on how to get her in to bed. But something different happened. No matter what this man did, this girl just didn't respond. He got to know Jennifer real well. He thought her to be the prettiest, funniest and smartest girl he had ever met. He couldn't stop thinking about her. Dave didn't even want to sleep with her, he just wanted to be near her all the time. He relaxed and was his true self around her and loved it.
Finally they started dating and fell in love. Jennifer claims that Dave changed like no one she had ever seen before. She remembers how much he tried in the beginning and it was only when he learned to
relax that she was able to start dating the real him.
